Alicia Cowl Crochet Pattern, Free Pattern

Looking  for a last minute Christmas gift? This cowl worked in Super Bulky Yarn works up in an hour! Make a pair of matching fingerless mittens using my free pattern and you have a precious pair. This cowl uses only single crochet stitches and requires only basic crochet skills.

I am using super bulky yarn in a crochet pattern for the first time and really enjoyed it. I used Wool Ease yarn from Lion Brand. They come in a range of lovely colors. If you are looking for a cheaper option, Michaels in house brand would be a good substitute. The gorgeous wooden buttons were bought from JoAnn Fabrics and makes the perfect accent. The bigger the button, the better!

When I made my first try of this pattern, the buttons were just for embellishment and were not used for closure. Then I thought it might  mess up your hair when you pull it down your neck and thought of making the buttons functional. The crochet pattern uses a braid  made with four strips.  It involves repeating the same two steps and is a no-brainer once you get the hang of it.

If you love it, please consider sharing it with one of the social media button below. Thank You!

  2. This is lovely and so easy! I love working with Wool Ease and have made several scarves and hats. I don't consider myself a beginner but I still do have trouble imagining what something should like when done. Would you please consider posting a pic of what the ends of the braided straps should like when they are crochet together? Also, pic five seems to show the button-hole side also having the buttons attached? Am sure I can figure out but a pic would be nice! Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas!

    1. Pic 5 is of the button band itself. Both the button hole band and button band look the same except for the button holes. Does that help ?

  3. I made this today. Love the pattern, easy to follow. I did not use chunky yarn though and i am not satisfied with the results :( It came out too narrow.
